For the brief period I was selling cars, I only found 1 instance where CarFax was wrong with what it reported about a vehicle.

It only count things from police/ insurance/ shops that report to them. So if you paint your own car Carfax won’t know about it, or you wreck and do all the repairs yourself. I sold my Saab with a clean CarFax but I had crashed it a few times, doing the repairs myself.
